Brandi Carlile- Hard Way Home

So for today's Song of the Day I'm going back to 2012's "Hard Way Home" by Brandi Carlile. Brandi was someone I had to listen to a few times for me to really get how great she is. Her album "Bear Creek" is really stunning and has another great song I love "That Wasn't Me".

I really love this new wave of female singer songwriters coming up like Brandi Carlile, Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark, so much talent and their songs are so unique and classic. The video below is a behind the scenes look at the song and acoustic performance. Hope you enjoy!

the bird and the bee- Will You Dance?

A few years ago, I was listening to Slacker and caught a cover of "I'm Into Something Good". The girl singing caught my attention almost immediately and I soon discovered the bird and the bee. Not too long after I heard that song, they released a cover album of Hall and Oates songs called "Interpreting the Masters Vol. 1" off of Blue Notes Records.
A few weeks ago, they just released their first album in about 5 years called "Recreational Love". Their lead single "Will You Dance?" definitely keeps them in that early 80s synth pop feel they love but still has a unique enough sound to keep them fresh in the 2010's. You can watch it here:

Misterwives- Reflections

Meet MisterWives- my latest favorite indie pop band. I first heard these guys when they were featured as the iTunes single of the week a few months back (if you aren't downloading the singles of the week, you should be or you'll be paying $1.29 like I do later). What I love about MisterWives is their energy and their 80's pop sensibilities matched with the amazing voice of Mandy Lee.

Their first single, "Reflections" quickly became one of my top favorite singles of 2014 and is still on constant repeat on my iPhone. And good news for all the MisterWives fans, they are heading back out on tour this fall!

You can check out "Reflections" the lyric video here:

Eric Hutchinson- Tell The World

I LOVE singer songwriters. My favorite singer songwriter is the Piano Man, Billy Joel but for me his closest heir apparent is Mr. Eric Hutchinson.

He isn't technically new to the scene with 3 albums under his belt but he's definitely what I call a word of mouth artist- meaning you know of him because someone heard him, saw him live etc. But he's definitely one of those unique artists that everyone likes him when they hear him. He has a lot of great live videos on Youtube and a killer version of his new single "Good Rhythm" from a live session he did on People Magazine online but this is the song that my kids and I love to sing to on an almost daily basis. Hope you enjoy!

Leon Bridges- Coming Home

Texas is home to some great music. From Willie Nelson to Buddy Holly and even to Beyonce, our music is as diverse as our state is. New to the Texas music success list is Fort Worth's Leon Bridges. I first heard Leon Bridges on our local NPR station, KXT and was an instant fan.

A few fun facts on Leon Bridges- he's from Fort Worth and was previously a waiter at a restaurant who is now onstage at SXSW and ACL (coming up in the fall). His keen fashion sense led to his break through a chance meeting with Austin Jenkins of White Denim. Bridges and Jenkins worked on some songs together which were released on a music blog and later went viral receiving huge accolades.

Leon Bridges will instantly remind any music lover of Sam Cooke and he definitely plays up the comparisons, the video for his lead single "Coming Home" is done in black and white and has a 60's throwback soul vibe. He starts off the video with a vintage feel and old school microphone to boot. The video focuses largely on his laid back style and smooth delivery and you can check out the full-length video here:
